The Barack Obama campaign has started deploying yard signs with the sunlight catalyzing Theft-Gard coating and attempt to discourage the rampant theft problem being reported statewide.
According to an anonymous Obama campaign staffer, the special yard signs are being installed in neighborhood locations where thefts have already taken place.
Theft-Gard signs, which are nearly identical to regular Obama yard signs, are coated with a powdered substance that after being exposed to ultraviolet radiation (sunlight) will mark clothing and human skin with a dark brown stain. The non-toxic chemical agent is absorbed into the skin and cannot be washed off, making identification of sign stealing culprits easy for law enforvement agencies.
The signs, having been used in the North Carolina and Missouri Primaries, led to the prosecution of over 20 individuals to date.

Where can I get some of that . I was planning on putting crushed glass on thr edges of my sign.
ReplyDeleteCrushed glass? Yeah, opening yourself up to prosecution is much smarter than just taking the sign inside at night.

ReplyDelete"open yourself open to prosecution"?
ReplyDeleteum, no.
a property owner has the right to protect his property within reasonable means. displaying an anti-theft device that will lead to bodily harm if a theft is attempted, is not unreasonable. would you also question the legality of barbed wire fencing? oh noes, lets go and prosecute those outrageous property owners with the temerity to want to save what theyve worked so hard for!
anyway, i wouldnt do it myself cause i'd be wary of curious children hurting themselves (even tho they should know better)

ReplyDeleteNo, crushed glass is a good idea. You're not open to prosecution (by law)... it's your property. I think I may try razor wire on mine. Dont want to get sliced? Dont touch my sign! Worried about your kids? Good, you should be. Keep them away from my sign.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure about booby trapping political signs, but (buried in my head from college) I remember that it's illegal to, for example, put lethal traps on your property to catch prowlers.
